چکیده

Detailed knowledge of the subsurface is a prerequisite for the planning of effective site remediation. Conventional investigation of contaminated sites is based mainly on observations from wells. However, practical limitations on the number of wells mean that characterization of the subsurface based on borehole data alone leads to uncertainties in determining the hydrogeological parameters and limits the identification of structures relevant for groundwater flow and contaminant transport. The combination of high-resolution geophysical methods, such as seismic and electrical tomography, with hydrogeological borehole information as presented here, allows a more detailed description of subsurface heterogeneities. To link the geophysical data with the hydrogeological parameters a method of multivariate statistics is used, which can also take uncertainty in the data into account. The integrated hydrogeophysical approach is illustrated using a synthetic data set.

Study of Hydrocarbon Saturation by Geophysical Methods

The contamination of soil and groundwater by LNAPLs is a problem that has been treated over several years, because, they are used in the industrial worldwide. Its location and behavior in the subsurface has been monitored through invasive methods that disturb the environment and they are costly. In this sense, we integrated a noninvasive hydrogeophysical method as Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)...

Quantitative Integration of High-Resolution Hydrogeophysical Data: A Novel Approach to Monte-Carlo-Type Conditional Stochastic Simulations and Implications for Hydrological Predictions

Geophysical techniques can help to bridge the inherent gap that exists with regard to spatial resolution and coverage for classical hydrological methods. This has led to the emergence of a new and rapidly growing research domain generally referred to as hydrogeophysics. Given the differing sensitivities of various geophysical techniques to hydrologically relevant parameters, their inherent trad...

Hydrogeophysical Approach for Identification of Layered Structures of the Vadose Zone from Electrical Resistivity Data

1 Heterogeneity and lack of sufficient site characterization render accurate and reliable predictions of subsurface flow and transport in the vadose zone notoriously elusive. It is now widely recognized that for quantitative descriptions of subsurface phenomena to be scientifically defensible, they have to be accompanied by some measure of predictive uncertainty. In other words, a major goal of...

Integrated Characterization and a Tuning Strategy for the PVT Analysis of Representative Fluids in a Gas Condensate Reservoir

Gas condensate reservoirs are characterized by a distinctive retrograde behavior and potential for condensate drop out during production and sampling. Efficient modeling of gas condensate reservoir requires careful phase behavior studies of samples collected prior to and during the production life of reservoir. In this work, an integrated characterization and tuning algorithm is proposed to ana...
